The list of reasons you could develop skin that is dark under your eyes is so vast that you may be surprised at how simple it is to be affected. In its simplest for the dark rings under your eyes are caused by an excess of hemoglobin being broken down and leaving a blue or purple residue under the skin. Apart from the obvious black eye caused by trauma nasal congestion is a classic way for your eyes to become darker around the outside. The internal pressure on the skin simply causes the bruising to form on the underside which will eventually show through. A good way to counter this is to use a saline solution to rinse out your sinus passage. Granted this is not the prettiest way of treating it but it really is effective. Alternatively if you do not have saline you could simply use warm water in the shower. As you relieve the pressure from the congestion you should notice any bruising slowly going down. You can aid the swelling by applying some cold cucumber or a frozen spoon to increase the circulation around the eyes.
Eczema can directly affect your eyelids in certain ways; this can lead to a form of dark skin under the eyes. Eczema is harder to treat than most ailments as the research that has done has been not been able to point at a definitive reason for the disease ever coming up. There are ways that the effects of eczema can be reduced and you can try these on the skin under your eyes to see if it could help.
Overall what causes dark under eye circles may seem many in number, but all are treatable in some way or another. The only downfall is that it will affect most of us at some time or another. The worst part of this is that some people are just predisposition to suffer as it can be passed down from one generation to the next pretty easily. If you feel that the dark under your eyes is being caused by something underlying that is more severe than what is mentioned here you should definitely go to see your doctor to rule out any possibilities before administering treatment. The worst thing you could do is use the wrong treatment on a skin condition and end up only making it worse which would defeat the point of trying to get rid of it.
